Fancy Meeting You Here...

On an ordinary Thursday afternoon hunting down something as simple as wood...you just never know what you are about to come across. What I found was an interesting gentleman who happen to be on the same path as I was today...seaching for wood. But he was more than just anyone...he's one hell of a photographer. Just by the looks of his card, I knew he was someone special. His name is Stephen Berkman. He showed me some work that he had in his car and I was right. Definately someone with some very special talents. I could not wait to get home and view his web-site...my admiration grew. I'm almost certian that the exchange of information (ummmmmmmm what I mean is directing him to my blog) is not quite equally stimulating for him...but who cares. He's just been added to my list of inspirations. Today I met a "beautiful creature". http://www.stephenberkman.com/ Stephen...thank you!!!

Valentine's Graffiti Log

A throwback arrangement that pays homage to the good 'ole days of chicken scratching your and your sweetie's initials onto the trunk of a tree - a testament to puppy love. Now you can take it on the go, adorned with luscious flowers and vegetation as it might be found in it's natural environs. However, once the flowers fade away, the log remains - a symbol of the sturdy-as-oak kinda love. (and if the love burns out, you can light a match under the sucker as a symbol of...well you get the idea)
Call (213) 447-0017 or email me at bcreatures@gmail.com to place your order in time for Valentine's.

calling all beautiful creatures

Inspired by a found object that was buried deep underneath the garden of a Hollywood Hills Estate that was being torn down...beautiful creatures was born. I had no idea what this meant to me. Do I launch a furniture line? Should I start a clothing line? And then it took getting hit in the head to get things into perspective. Floral design.

I have had the great fortune of working, playing and exploring new ideas with countless innovative designers, visionary architects, and talented chefs. I am inspired by them all. Of course I should mention photographers, writers, actors, anyone who will talk to me (basically) and especially someone very special to me...my father. They have all played a very important roll in my life and the intimate stories that they have generously shared with me are somehow injected into all that am able to see. From discussing the finer points of 20yr Single Malt Scotch with the late Julius Shulman to sharing a burger with a homeless guy named Ricky...downtown LA's James Brown dancing Pirate. I could go on and on....but maybe we can revisit stories from those that have played interesting roles in my life another day. Time to tell you about beautiful creatures.

Given my background in design, I began clipping tears from publications, snipping swatches of fabric, puling out all my wood samples, creating color stories and eventually ended up with my inspiration board. I found that my approach to floral design come from art, music, architecture, food and fashion. I set my alarm for 4AM and headed for the Flower Mart. I was like a lost 5 yr old at Target. Searching for someone or something familiar (scared stiff) but distracted by so many things unfamiliar to play with while finding my way to safety.

I have posted a few photos from my first real attempt at floral design. I hope you continue to find your way back to my blog and enjoy my postings. Unfortunately, Julius and I never discussed Photography 101, so will apologize in advance for the amateur photography.

Thank you!
